Botox®, is approved by the FDA for cosmetic
use. Botox®
is used to soften or eliminate dynamic wrinkles.
Botox® can eliminate that "always angry"
look or that "tired" appearance caused by dynamic wrinkles. Botox®
is also used to reduce underarm sweating, to treat migraine
headaches, to stop eye twitching, and to tighten a double chin.
Many
wrinkles are actually creases that have been worn into the skin
by making the same expression thousands of times. These
"expression lines", often called frown lines or crow's feet, are
due to the contraction of a muscle under the skin in that area.
We have known for years that surgically cutting that muscle will
improve the wrinkle.
A Botox® treatment is a simple, non-surgical procedure that
smoothes the deep, persistent lines between your brows that
develop over time. One 10-minute treatment -- a few tiny
injections -- relaxes the muscles that cause those lines to form
and keeps them relaxed up to 4 months.
The results are dramatic and apparent within days. In clinical
trials, nearly 90% of the men and women surveyed rated the
improvement in their brow lines as moderate to better. For many,
Botox® virtually "erases" these lines.
Botox®
is a purified protein toxin produced by the clostridium
botulinum bacteria. Although Botox® is a toxin, there have been
no serious side effects. This is because, for the treatment
described, it is used in extremely small amounts and does
not spread throughout the body.
Unlike surgery, Botox® is fast, simple, and minimally invasive,
with no downtime or recovery. Most people return directly to
work or normal activity following treatment. Within days, they
report looking more natural and relaxed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Botox® right for you?
There are very few restrictions
regarding Botox treatments. Thousands of
appearance-conscious women and men have already discovered the
benefits of Botox®. Not just models and movie stars, but
ordinary people -- teachers, mothers, fathers, and business
people from all walks of life. As long as you are not pregnant,
or have been told by a physician that you should not have Botox®
due to a specific neurological condition, you are likely a good
candidate.
Is Botox® safe?
Botox®
is one of the safest procedures available for the treatment of
wrinkles and has been approved by the FDA for this purpose. It
has been used successfully in ophthalmology for over 10 years,
and for wrinkle therapy for over 6 years. The most common side
effects of Botox®
are temporary and localized to the area of injection.
How do Botox® treatments work?
Dynamic facial wrinkles, the most prominent visible signs of
aging, result from repeated contraction of certain facial muscles.
Botox® is administered to the muscle that creates a wrinkle.
Botox® temporarily blocks the nerve impulse
from reaching that area and, as a result, weakens the muscle. As
the muscle relaxes, wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and
often disappear completely.
Which wrinkles are best treated with Botox®?
Botox® is most commonly used to treat the vertical wrinkles or
"frown lines" between your eyebrows, the long prominent creases
across your forehead and crow’s feet emanating from the corners of
your eyes. On occasion, some other areas may be treated as well.
How long does a Botox® treatment last?
Botox® offers sustained benefits, dose after dose, over the
course of long-term treatment. The full effect of Botox® may not
be apparent for several days or even a few weeks. Your first
treatment will last approximately three to five months, with a
gradual fading of its effects. At that time, you will return for
your next treatment. As you continue to receive Botox®
treatments, the effects will last even longer, up to six months
for some people. The degree and duration of effect varies from
person to person. Treatment for crow’s feet may be more frequent
than therapy for frown lines or forehead creases.
Does a Botox® Injection hurt?
When Botox®
is administered there may be an initial minor sting. Once the
treatment is completed, there is usually no discomfort. The
administration area may be pretreated with a topical anesthetic
or ice compress.
How long can I be treated with
Botox®?
Botox®
treatments can typically be repeated indefinitely.
What is the recovery time for Botox®
treatments?
Botox® treatments require little recovery. The
Botox®
procedure is administered with a very tiny needle applied to the
area to be treated. There is little if any resulting redness or
swelling at the injection site. Most people who receive Botox®
treatments return to work or attend social engagements
immediately following their treatment. Some patients find it
convenient to schedule their Botox® therapy during their lunch
hour.
How long must I wait after my Botox®
treatment to reapply my makeup?
The Botox® procedure is so safe and non-invasive that you can
reapply your makeup immediately after your treatment. Of course,
it is important that you keep the injection sites clean and remove
your makeup and reapply frequently.
What do I need to do to prepare for my Botox®
treatment?
Preparation for treatment is simple. Do not take aspirin or
ibuprofen medications for 1 week prior to your appointment. You do
not need to change your eating habits the day of the treatment, or
even bring a driver!
Am I a candidate for Botox®
treatments?
As long as you are not pregnant, or have been told by a physician
that you should not have Botox®
due to a specific neurological condition, you are likely a good
candidate. Our highly trained staff and physicians will carefully
examine you and take a medical history, prior to the
administration of any
Botox® treatment.
