Collagen is generally not used as a filler any longer with the advent of newer and safer fillers such as Restylane®.
Collagen is a natural protein used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, deep folds, or to provide lip enhancement. As you age, the years of laughing, smiling, talking and tanning inevitably crease your skin. These factors can leave you with wrinkles and lines. Injected under the surface of your skin, collagen effectively restores the natural youthful looking contours of your face, smoothing wrinkles and filling lines and furrows.
An alternative to Collagen is Restylane®, among other fillers.
Collagen injections provide structure and strength to our skin. Collagen replacements are derived from highly purified bovine collagen. They are placed just beneath the top layers of the skin to blend with your own collagen in order to fill in your lines and scars. Its best use is to fill static lines, that is, those caused by gravity rather than muscle use. It is used to fill in the "marionette" lines around the mouth. It is also used to give lips that fuller, more "pouty" look. In doing so, it causes the lines above the lip to disappear.
While your results will usually last three months to a year, you may need occasional touch-up treatments to refresh and maintain the correction Your corrected wrinkles and lines can be reduced nearly indefinitely with regular treatment.
Are Collagen Treatments Safe?
Yes. Collagen replacement injections are a safe and effective
method in the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles. Collagen
has been used in different medical products for over 100 years.
More than 1 million people in 28 countries have been treated
with collagen injections. In addition, the doctor will
administer a skin test and discuss your medical history to
eliminate the possibility of an allergic reaction. If you are
allergic, some temporary redness may appear which indicates you
